Give yourself a crispy treat with these tasty protein rich tofu cutlets. You can also call these nice-looking cutlets vegan schnitzels or vegan nuggets. I know they are way too regular in shapes to perfectly call them nuggets, but the point is they are excellent chicken alternative for you if you are a vegan.
This vegan friendly dish can be made and enjoyed by everybody. It’s a good meal to get some plant based protein in your system.
Making these tofu cutlets vegan / non vegan
The main protein source in here, the tofu is obviously vegan, but take a note of these other ingredients- yogurt and mayonnaise.
If you are making these cutlets vegan, then I would recommend you use soy yogurt. Also, remember to purchase the vegan version of the mayonnaise as well.
If you don’t want to keep this recipe vegan, then feel free to use the full fat Greek yogurt and the regular mayonnaise. If you do not eat eggs, in case of vegetarians, then use the vegan mayo or just skip this altogether.

Crispy Tofu Cutlets
Ingredients
- 400 g tofu extra firm
Wet Mix
- ½ cup soy milk
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Dry Ingredients
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp mixed herbs
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp salt
Dipping Sauce
- 1 bunch coriander leaves
- 2 cloves garlic
- 4 tbsp yogurt
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- ½ piece lemon
- 1 tsp cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 piece green chilli

Instructions
- Start by pressing the tofu with paper towel or kitchen towel to make it dry.
- Slice the tofu into 1 inch wide cutlets as shown in picture.400 g tofu
- In a bowl, mix soy milk and lemon until it becomes thicker.½ cup soy milk, 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Mix all the dry Ingredients in a separate bowl.½ cup breadcrumbs, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp mixed herbs, 1 tbsp salt
- Mix like this.
- One at a time, take a tofu cutlet and dip into the liquid mix.
- Then put it into the dry mixture. Make sure it gets a nice layer of coating.
- Lay the cutlets on a baking tray with little bit of space between them. Then spray tofu cutlets with cooking oil for extra crispiness.
- Bake the cutlets on 180℃ / 355℉ for 30 to 35 minutes. Remember to turn them after 15 min.
Dipping Sauce
- Add the following ingredients in a blender and then blend until it becomes smooth.1 bunch coriander leaves, 2 cloves garlic, 4 tbsp yogurt, 4 tbsp mayonnaise, ½ piece lemon, 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp salt, 1 piece green chilli
- Pour it in a bowl and it's ready.
