Spicy Chicken Choila

This traditional Nepalese dish has a mouth watering taste and very distinct flavour. High in protein and low in calories.

Choila is an authentic Nepalese dish. Although traditionally it’s made of roasted buffalo meat, chicken version of it has become popular in today’s world. Thanks to the availability of it which is also much cheaper.

Chicken Choila is generally served as an appetizer / entree. I usually have it as a main dish because of its protein value and ease of preparation. When I go to any Nepalese cultural event, I mostly eat Choila on entree and eat less of the main dish after.

Protein and calories in this chicken Choila

This chicken Choila contains a good amount of high-quality protein. As we are using lean chicken breast, there isn’t much saturated fat which makes it a very healthy dish.

One serve of this chicken Choila has around 40g of protein and only 350 calories. Feel free to add some carbs on side.

What to serve with chicken Choila?

It’s best to serve chicken Choila with some rice flakes (Chiura in Nepali). As you can already guess, it also goes well with rice. I prefer brown rice for its texture. It’s also good to serve with baked potato.

What type of tomato to use?

It’s best to make chicken Choila using cherry tomato. If you have regular tomato, I suggest you add some lemon juice to increase the sourness and mimic the cherry tomato’s flavour.

Ginger / garlic ratio

The perfect ginger garlic ratio for this ratio is 2-part garlic by 1-part ginger. Easy enough.
