Ingredients

  • 400 g tofu extra firm
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 tbs salt

Orange tofu sauce

  • 2 tsp ginger and garlic
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce 50 ml
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • cup water
  • 1 tbs olive oil

Instructions

  • Drain the tofu and pat it dry with a paper towel or kitchen towel.
    400 g tofu
  • Cut the tofu into cubes.
    400 g tofu
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease the air fryer tray and set it aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients: cornstarch, garlic powder, orange zest, and salt.
2 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tsp orange zest, 1 tbs salt
  • Mix the ingredients well.
  • Add the tofu into the mixture and toss together. Make sure all tofu is coated nicely.
  • Layer the tofu pieces onto the prepared tray in a single layer, ensuring they don't touch each other or overlap. Spray a little oil to make the tofu crispier.
  • Bake the tofu for 20- 25 minutes, flipping them halfway. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce.
  • While the tofu is in the oven, we can prepare the orange sauce. I am taking one orange to make some orange zest first.
    ¼ cup orange juice
  • I've also crushed some ginger and garlic.
    2 tsp ginger and garlic
  • In a measuring cup, add cornstarch and water. Mix well, then set it aside.
⅓ cup water, 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • I am using the same orange from which I took the orange zest. Squeeze the orange into a bowl.
    ¼ cup orange juice
  • Then add soy sauce, half orange zest, brown sugar, vinegar and mix well.
2 tbsp brown sugar, ¼ cup soy sauce, 2 tbsp vinegar, 1 tsp orange zest
  • Check the tofu; if it's nice and crispy, then turn off the oven. If it's not nice and crispy, give it some more time in the oven.
  • Heat a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add oil and heat it over medium heat.
    1 tbs olive oil
  • Stir in garlic and ginger, and cook over low to medium heat to prevent the garlic from burning. Cook until fragrant, which should take about 1 minute.
    2 tsp ginger and garlic
  • Add orange sauce which we made before. Bring to a light simmer.
  • Occasionally stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves, which should take about 2-3 minutes. When you see bubbles forming.
  • Now time to add cornstarch and water mix.
  • Cook 1-2 minutes until bubble forming.
  • The final step is to add the tofu we prepared earlier.
  • Gently stir the sauce, coating the tofu, and cook for 2-3 more minutes.
  • Now, it's ready to serve. Garnish it with some roasted sesame seeds. Enjoy!
